Drawing A Line In The Sand

Sometimes we owe it to ourselves to draw a line in the sand. Sometimes a decision must be made, and based on our principles and moral fiber, we cannot back down. Taking the hardened stance is never easy, it is rarely fun…but sometimes it is the right thing to do.

It is easy to question yourself, to second guess your actions. Certain situations demand that you be resolute. Often these situations required that you walk into the face of opposition and criticism, from those who have less resolve and from those with a lesser understanding of the situation.

Maybe you’ll be accused of acting out of fear…

Maybe you’ll be accused of acting out of partisan fervor…

Inside your heart, you know you are right. You know that you’ve made the right decision, and that history (and the facts) are on your side. Deep down you know the only way you will lose is if you quit.

On September 11, 2001 Islamic terrorists attacked the United States because they could. No reason…no rationale for why they attacked is necessary. They attacked us period. End of discussion. It was wrong and we should do everything possible within our power to stop it from ever happening again. We are not motivated by fear or politics. We are motivated by what is right and just.

The Islamic terrorists brought this on themselves. They are not victims to be coddled. The line in the sand has been drawn. They know they will only win by “outlasting” us. They think they have more resolve. God willing they will not.

There will be those that wish to negotiate or appease. It will fail. It is not a viable solution and should not be entertained. To quote Winston Churchill, “An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last”. Appeasement and negotiations mean one thing to Islamic terrorist…victory. We cannot allow this.

5 years after 9/11 the going is not easy. Many have fought on distant shores, and given their lives. We have seen the good we’ve done. We’ve all seen the negatives (war is never pleasant). But we’ve stood our ground in the face of Islamic terrorists and are winning. It is not a fight we can afford to lose. No matter if it ends tomorrow, 2 years from now, 10 years from now, or whenever.

We’ve all heard the quote from Thomas Paine’s The Crisis, when the tory tavern keeper states, "Well! give me peace in my day."

We should fight the fight now. Why prolong it? Why should future generations have to contend with the fight that was brought to our doorstep?

“By perseverance and fortitude we have the prospect of a glorious issue; by cowardice and submission, the sad choice of a variety of evils…”- Thomas Paine’s The Crisis
