Stay The Course

So this is what we can expect from the Democrats. They scream “new direction”. They start with a partisan blast at Donald Rumsfeld. It was a total waste of time and energy. As was desperately needed, the Republicans slapped it down, hard.

The following quote of Jim DeMint from Foxnews.com pretty much sums it up.

"If my Democrat colleagues spent half the time helping us fight this war on terror as they do attacking the administration, we'd be a lot closer to winning this war," said Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C. "They are united in the idea of retreat and defeatism."

The Democrats can barely mount an intelligent argument that doesn’t leave you with the conclusion that they don’t intend to cut and run. Fox New quotes Carl Levin:

“The top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Sen. Carl Levin of Michigan, said Iraqis should no longer assume the U.S. commitment is open-ended.”

For a party that cries out for a “new direction”, they appear to be painfully lost. I doubt that a party so lost can effectively lead the nation. If they were to win the majority…I think we’d find that their strategy would be a total failure.

They babble that we “can’t stay the course”, but when pressed for any details offer little that isn’t already being done. If history bears any importance to the U.S. we should remember the earlier wars and conflicts. We “stayed the course” in WWII and won. We allowed our resolve to wane and left Vietnam, letting it fall to communists.

Staying the course…adjusting for victory…but not “redeploying” to other areas is the American way. It is not fair to those who have sacrificed to leave. It is not fair to the Iraqis to leave early and create and power vacuum from which only Islamic terrorists will prevail.
